    Questions

What is a good audience retention on YouTube?

For 8–15 minute videos, keeping 35–50% of viewers on average is solid. The first 30 seconds decide most of it.

    What hurts retention the most?

A slow start that doesn’t confirm the title, long setups, and stretches where nothing changes on screen.

    Can an editor fix retention?

Much of it: pacing, cutting dead air, visual changes, sound and on-screen text are editing jobs. The hook and structure start in the script.
